Cannabis-Infused Sugar
Overview
Cannabis-infused sugar is a versatile ingredient that can be used in baking or mixed into beverages. It is created by combining a cannabis tincture with granulated sugar and gently evaporating the alcohol, leaving behind infused crystals.
Ingredients
- 3 grams cannabis flower
- ½ cup high-proof alcohol (such as Everclear)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
Equipment
- Mason jar with lid
- Baking sheet
- 9" × 13" baking dish
- Cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer
- Oven
Instructions
Step 1: Decarboxylate the Cannabis
This process activates cannabinoids prior to infusion.
- Preheat oven to 225°F.
- Spread cannabis evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove and allow to cool before use.
Step 2: Create Cannabis Tincture
- Place decarboxylated cannabis in a mason jar.
- Add high-proof alcohol until fully covered.
- Seal tightly and shake every 5 minutes for 20 minutes.
Step 3: Strain and Combine
- Strain mixture through cheesecloth into a bowl, discarding plant material.
- Mix the strained liquid evenly with granulated sugar.
- Spread mixture evenly in a 9" × 13" baking dish.
Step 4: Evaporate Alcohol
- Bake at 200°F.
- Stir occasionally as the alcohol evaporates.
- Continue until sugar is dry and lightly golden.
Estimated Potency
Potency will vary depending on cannabinoid content, extraction efficiency, and evaporation losses. Final potency is distributed across the total sugar volume.
Dosing Considerations
Potency is an estimate and may vary based on starting material, infusion efficiency, and serving size. Use small, measured amounts and allow sufficient time to assess effects before increasing intake.
Storage
- Store in an airtight container.
- Keep in a cool, dry place away from moisture.
- Use within several weeks for best consistency.
Additional Notes
- Best used as a measured sweetener in drinks or baked goods.
- Ensure alcohol is fully evaporated before storage or use.
- Stir before use if clumping occurs.
Safety Notes
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Clearly label all infused products.
- Store separately from standard sugar to avoid confusion.
